My Dancing To The 80’s Playlist

Saturdays are always my fun days and I like to treat them that way.  I usually start the day off with some music while making breakfast.  I love listening to a wide variety of music and have always had quite an eclectic taste.  The type of music I listen to usually depends on my mood.  I’ve always thought it to be fascinating how music can alter your mood; I mean who doesn’t listen to sad songs and immediately feels the rush of old feelings from past break ups, a sense of sadness and loss comes over you. (Ok, well maybe not everyone) I try to avoid those types of songs but they have a time and a place for everyone I’m sure.

When I’m in a “let’s get things done type of mood” I usually put on some heavy rock and turn up the volume.  I mean a little angry and loud music always gets you moving, maybe a little too much stomping around sometimes but it sure is filled with energy.  It might not be the best energy but it sure can get my blood boiling which makes me move!

Then there’s my gym music which I usually have a mix of fast beat type tunes or club mixes.  The only problem is I love to sing along and it’s so hard for me to not sing out loud while the music is ringing in my ears as I’m strutting along on the treadmill.  I do manage to hold in my solo’s and other gym members should be ever so grateful for that!!

Saturdays though I always find myself listening to happy, fun with a side of energy music.  For me this seems to be many songs from the 80’s. I don ‘t know there’s something about the 80’s music that just makes you want to sing along and dance around like a kid again.  Maybe that’s because this was the generation of music that I mainly listened to growing up.

My Saturday 80’s playlist looks like this……

Michael Jackson – Billy Jean

Prince – I Would Die For You

Duran Duran – Hungry Like The Wolf

David Bowie – Let’s Dance

Frankie Goes To Hollywood – Relax

Madonna – Material World

Bananarama – Cruel Summer

Yazoo – Don’t Go

ABC – The Look Of Love

Men Without Hats – Safety Dance

Simple Minds – Don’t You Forget About Me

Pat Benatar – Love Is A Battlefield

Dead Or Alive – You Spin Me Round (Like A Record)

The B-52’s – Love Shack

Talking Heads – Burning Down The House

Wham! Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go

Culture Club – Karma Chameleon

Tears For Fears – Everybody Wants To Rule The World

INXS – Need You Tonight

Thompson Twins – Hold Me Now

Kajagoogoo – Too Shy

A Flock Of Seagulls – I Ran

A Ha  – Take On Me

Platinum Blonde – Not In Love

The Human League – Don’t You Want Me

The Cure – Friday I’m In Love

The Romantics – Talking In Your Sleep

Cyndi Lauper – Girls Just Want To Have Fun

Do you know the words to all these songs?  I think I do! Probably from listening to them for so many years over and over again.  There are so many more great songs from this era.  I didn’t even include any of the more rock type 80’s music like Guns N Roses, Poison, Bon Jovi, Whitesnake, Billy Idol, Queen, AC/DC, The Clash and so on. Wow if I made a list of all my favourites it would be a long list.

Thankfully for youtube I can search these bands and watch the videos which only brings back memories of my childhood and watching Much Music on the weekends for the latest video releases.

Hope you’re enjoying your Saturday as much as I am, now back to dancing in the kitchen.
